Israel blames US for failed hostage-release deal

Israel’s mood towards the US continues to sour after the US failed to block a UN ceasefire resolution.

Israel pulled its negotiators from Qatar in light of new hostage demands from Hamas, which is calling for Israel to completely “withdraw from the Gaza Strip” and rejecting an American compromise proposal.

Israel says Hamas has been emboldened by this week’s UN resolution, which called for a ceasefire in Gaza without also demanding the hostages be released. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said, “Hamas’s stance clearly demonstrates its utter disinterest in a negotiated deal and attests to the damage done by the UN Security Council’s resolution.”

The Netanyahu office called the new demands delusional and said Israel will continue to pursue its goal of destroying Hamas and freeing all the remaining hostages.
