Israel expresses concern over ICC arrests as US finds human rights violations

Israel is worried that the International Criminal Court may issue arrest warrants for top military officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The ICC has been conducting investigations into possible war crimes committed by both Israeli and Palestinian militants going back to 2014. The organization told NBC News that their current investigation is related to the “state of Palestine” but did not give any further comments.

The news also comes as Israel faces increasing pressure concerning their planned offensive in Rafah. Neither Israel nor the US recognizes the court’s jurisdiction, however, the arrest warrants could put Israeli officials at risk of being arrested in other countries, including much of Europe.

Congress warned the ICC that any arrest warrants for senior Israeli officials would result in retaliation from the US.
