Israel pushes into southern Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces are now pushing into southern Gaza, claiming Hamas leaders are hiding among the civilians who fled south at Israel’s urging.

Palestinians have been warned to evacuate specific neighborhoods through a digital map, but some civilians say there is nowhere safe for them to go. The death toll in Gaza is now over 15,000 according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry.

The U.S. is now applying strong pressure to prevent civilian casualties. That also means lawmakers are increasingly balking at President Joe Biden’s $14 billion aid request for Israel. Chief among lawmakers’ concerns is a need for increased humanitarian aid to Gaza.

But there are risks to continued aid. The IDF revealed on Saturday they found dozens of rockets in Gaza underneath U.N. aid boxes in a private home.
