Israel sending delegation to Washington to discuss Rafah invasion

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to send a delegation to Washington in the coming days to discuss the war in Gaza. President Joe Biden made the request yesterday during the first call between the two leaders in more than a month.

The U.S. and other Western allies have pressured Israel not to invade Rafah, citing the high number of refugees in the city, though the administration says Biden still supports Israel’s goal of destroying Hamas.

Following yesterday’s call, Netanyahu told Israeli lawmakers he made it “supremely clear” to President Biden that Israel is determined to destroy the Hamas battalions inside Rafah. He said, “There’s no way to do that except by going in on the ground.”
