Israel sets date for Rafah invasion

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says a date has been set for Israel’s invasion of Rafah in southern Gaza.

He did not give further details but said that the operation was critical to Israel’s victory against Hamas. Israel says four Hamas battalions remain in Rafah as well as an unknown number of senior commanders.

The U.S. has been urging Israel for weeks not to enter Rafah, citing the large number of refugees sheltering in the city. Biden has even threatened to pull support from Israel if it doesn’t take more steps to protect civilians.

Israel is currently preparing to evacuate civilians from Rafah and has reportedly purchased 40,000 tents ahead of the evacuation. Netanyahu says Israel will enter Rafah with or without America’s support.
