Tensions between the U.S. and Israel continue to grow. Yesterday, a senior Israeli official accused the Biden administration of trying to undermine and overthrow Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The unnamed official, who some reports have suggested could be Netanyahu himself, said, “We expect our friends to act to overthrow the terror regime of Hamas and not the elected government in Israel.”
The accusation comes in response to a recent U.S. threat assessment. The report cites deepening “distrust of Netanyahu’s ability to rule” in the wake of the Israel-Hamas war – remarks that piggybacked on President Biden’s negative comments about Netanyahu earlier this week.
The report describes Netanyahu as pursuing “hardline policies on Palestinian and security issues” that may jeopardize his ruling coalition, saying a “different, more moderate government is a possibility” in the future.
