Israeli support for Netanyahu increases

It looks like Israelis favor Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s operation in Rafah.

A recent poll showed Netanyahu’s popularity increased to 46% compared to his rival Benny Gantz, leader of the National Unity Party. The survey also predicted a slim majority win for Netanyahu’s Likud party over the National Unity Party.

At the same time, protesters took to the streets in Israel over the weekend demanding Netanyahu do more to release the remaining hostages. One protester said that the time to act is now, or even those who have stayed alive will soon die.

The spike in support is fortuitous for Netanyahu given the Biden administration’s increased disapproval of the IDF’s operation in Rafah, which has caused a riff even among some Democrats in the U.S.
