Italian Prime Minister stops G7 from promoting abortion

If you were paying attention to the G7 summit in Italy last week, you may have noticed no mention of the progressive talking points we’ve come to expect from these meetings.

The reason – Italy’s conservative Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. According to the Washington Stand, Meloni rejected pressure from President Joe Biden to use the G7 to promote abortion. Biden wanted a repeat of last year’s statement, which said:

We reaffirm our full commitment to achieving comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for all, including by addressing access to safe and legal abortion and post abortion care.

Meloni ultimately decided to keep abortion out of this year’s statement, saying “I believe it is profoundly wrong, in difficult times like these, to campaign using a precious forum like the G7.”
