Special counsel Jack Smith has revived the indictment against former President Donald Trump, accusing him of criminal acts during the 2020 elections.
Smith specifically charged Trump with three criminal conspiracies: defrauding the United States election system, obstructing the January 6 congressional proceedings, and a conspiracy “against the right to vote and have one’s vote counted.”
The charges are largely the same as they were previously, with a few changes. The 36-page document no longer includes alleged co-conspirator Jeffrey Clark, who served as Attorney General in the latter portion of Trump’s term.
The attorney had refused to testify about Trump and the DOJ’s “confidences” before the January 6 committee, claiming the special counsel’s “unlawful” abuse of power in the process.
Clark celebrated his removal from the co-conspirator list by stating on X that the Supreme Court’s presidential immunity decision “vindicates” his refusal to cooperate with the special counsel.
Trump responded to the revived indictment by claiming it’s nothing but “election interference” and a way to distract people from Democrat policy failures.
