Johnson announces next step in Biden impeachment inquiry

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is giving the green light to move on to the next stage of the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. The speaker released a statement after receiving an update on the investigation from House Oversight Chair James Comer (R-Ky.)

Johnson said the investigation has already exposed the “corrupt conduct of the president’s family” – pointing to “tens of millions of dollars from foreign adversaries being paid to shell companies” owned by the Biden family. Johnson added that the next step is to “place key witnesses under oath and question them under the penalty of perjury, to fill gaps in the record.”

Just last week, House Republicans issued subpoenas for high-profile members of the Biden family, including Biden’s son Hunter, and the president’s brother, James Biden.

House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) says he expects those depositions before the year ends.
