A Jordanian national has been charged with destroying an energy facility in Florida and threatening to use explosives on four separate occasions.
Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the charges this week, saying the suspect intended “to carry out mass violence” in the US. He’s accused of causing $700,000 in damages to a Florida solar panel facility for its perceived support of Israel.
The incident marked an escalation in an anti-Israel destruction spree that saw business doors smashed with threatening letters left behind. They were addressed to the U.S. government and threatened to “destroy or explode” America.
The suspect was arrested in early July and faces 10 years in federal prison per threat and up to 20 years for destroying the facility if he is convicted.
