Judge orders Trump ally Steve Bannon to report to prison

A federal judge yesterday ordered former Trump advisor Steve Bannon to report to prison on July 1 to begin serving out a four-month sentence.

Bannon was convicted of contempt of Congress in 2022 for failing to comply with a subpoena from the January 6 committee. Bannon’s sentence originally had been stayed pending appeal.

The stay was reversed this week after a higher court rejected his appeal efforts. Speaking outside the courthouse, Bannon said his conviction was part of an ongoing effort to silence conservatives.

Bannon is vowing to appeal the ruling “all the way to the Supreme Court.”
