Justice Alito temporarily blocks Texas immigration law

Yesterday a Supreme Court justice temporarily blocked a Texas law that allowed state law enforcement to arrest and deport illegal immigrants.

Earlier on Monday, a federal appeals court had ruled that Texas could implement the law beginning March 10. Hours later, the Justice Department filed an emergency request asking the Supreme Court to intervene. Justice Samuel Alito signed the order, temporarily blocking Texas from enacting the law until March 13.

The state has until the 11th to appeal. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is expected to do so.

Gov. Greg Abbott last week sat down with former President Donald Trump and Fox News’s Sean Hannity to discuss why Texas is taking the border crisis into its own hands.
