Justice Department moves to reclassify marijuana

The Biden administration has taken the next steps needed to lower the drug classification for marijuana.

Under federal law, cannabis is currently classified as a Schedule I drug, alongside heroin and LSD. This week, the Justice Department formally started the process to drop it to a Schedule III drug, which includes the likes of ketamine and testosterone. It should be noted that the change won’t legalize marijuana, but it will ease some restrictions.

It could take more than a year for the reclassification to officially take place.
