MTG fails to rally support for ousting Speaker Johnson

Despite her best efforts, it looks like Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green is failing to convince her fellow Republicans to oust Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.).

Green filed a motion to vacate the speakership after Johnson cut a spending deal with Democrats last month. But many Republicans don’t have the stomach for it after last fall’s chaotic removal of then-speaker Kevin McCarthy.

And even if they did, many say there might not be anyone left to take Johnson’s place/ Texas Representative Troy Neils – a member of the conservative Freedom Caucus – told Axios he’s “not in favor of getting rid of Johnson … because nobody wants the job.” Likewise, Mark Alford of Missouri called removing Johnson a “fool’s errand.”

Green disagrees, saying there are plenty of qualified candidates, though she has to give any specific names.
