The U.S. has released the names of the three soldiers killed in Jordan on Sunday, the youngest being just 23.
As previously reported, the soldiers died after an carried out by Iranian proxies, who have attacked U.S. troops over 150 times since the war in Gaza began. But until now no Americans had been killed.
National Security Council spokesman John Kirby says the U.S. is planning a response, but stresses the White House doesn’t want a war with Iran. National security experts say they expect a response soon.
The U.S. is still trying to figure out how the drone managed to evade the base’s defenses. A preliminary report suggests American forces might have mistaken it as one of their own, as an American drone was scheduled to return around that same time.
