NATO holds 75th anniversary celebration

NATO decided to celebrate its 75th anniversary with cake, a marching band and speeches. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced the festivities for the alliance, which was founded on April 4, 1949.

But obviously, these celebrations were overshadowed mostly by the war in Ukraine. NATO ministers had gathered since the beginning of the week regarding stepping up aid to Ukraine. Stoltenberg singled out the U.S. in his speech, saying its allies needed more help than ever as the war entered its third year.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken seemed to bolster confidence in its support for Ukraine today, even suggesting that the country will be joining the alliance in the near future.
