Nearly 400 Navalny mourners detained in Russia

There were mass arrests in Russia over the weekend as citizens mourned the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

The 47-year-old was Vladimir Putin’s fiercest foe even while in prison. Officials say he died of sudden death syndrome, a catch-all term for various causes of cardiac arrest.

Upon his death, hundreds flocked to monuments built for victims of political repression. Human rights groups say police detained over 350 people in 39 cities.

Nalvany’s family and allies believe he was murdered and that officials are stalling the release of his body. The White House is also adamant that Putin is responsible for his death.
