Netanyahu commits to US-backed ceasefire proposal

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appears willing to back U.S. President Joe Biden’s three-phase ceasefire hostage deal, telling the Knesset yesterday he’s committed to the plan.

It’s a quick reversal for the prime minister, who the day before said he was only willing to “do a partial deal.”  The Biden plan is intended to lead to the release of all the remaining hostages and result in a “sustainable calm” in Gaza.

Former IDF commander Doron Avtial says Hamas has so far rejected the deal, demanding a complete end to the conflict as a precondition for any negotiations.
