Vice President Kamala Harris became the second presidential candidate in the 2024 race to promise to exclude tips from federal taxes. Such a proposal was initially announced by former President Donald Trump.
Both candidates made their announcements while rallying in Las Vegas. Vice President Harris’s announcement was made this past Saturday at the University of Nevada.
The former president quickly responded to Harris’ pledge, writing on social media, “The difference is, she won’t do it, she just wants it for political purposes! This was a Trump idea – She has no ideas, she can only steal from me.”
The dueling pledges are believed to be part of an effort by both candidates to secure the battleground state of Nevada. The state has the highest concentration of tipped workers in the country.
Although President Joe Biden narrowly won the state in 2020, recent polls have shown that the race in Nevada is currently a toss-up.
