New York City now pays migrants to move out of homeless shelters and obtain housing.
According to Fox News Digital, the Democrat-run city has offered $4,000 to 150 migrant families and an additional $1000 in gift cards for moving expenses. The new program is called Asylee Moveout Assistance. It was first rolled out in 2023 as an extension of the NYC Department of Homeless Services.
Those eligible for the program must be asylum seekers or pregnant women in select DHS shelters. However, a Department of Social Services spokesperson said this program is small and isn’t a “city-wide effort.” The spokesperson also said that the money comes from existing agency funds, not city funding.
According to a city spokesperson, New York City has spent $4.6 billion on the migrant crisis since 2022. Their latest migrant support effort comes as asylum seekers have overrun the city’s homeless shelters.
