NYPD clears occupied Columbia University building

Police have removed the group of anti-Israel protestors who were occupying Hamilton Hall at Columbia University.

Students stormed the building yesterday, causing extensive damage along the way. Police began their raid sometime after 9 last night. Around 40 people were arrested.

The occupation was lambasted by Democrats and Republicans alike. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) called the event a display of “lawlessness.”

Columbia has asked NYPD to maintain a presence on campus through at least May 17.
