Officials describe potential Chinese espionage threat

by ian

It looks like Chinese spies are officially among us.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Chinese nationals, sometimes posing as tourists, have accessed military bases and other sensitive sites in the US as many as 100 times in recent years.

US officials have officially dubbed them “gate-crashers.” They range from Chinese nationals found crossing into a US missile range in New Mexico, to scuba divers swimming near a US government rocket-launch site in Florida.

Officials describe these incidents as a form of espionage, as they often occur in rural areas far from any tourist sites.

This comes just one month after two US Navy soldiers were arrested for passing along sensitive military information to China. Jonathan Schanzer, senior vice president of research at the Foundation for Defense of Democracy, told Fox News that this was China going on the offensive – all in an effort to eventually take over Taiwan and dominate the Pacific region.
