Ohio Supreme Court blocks 6-week abortion ban

Ohio’s supreme court blocked the state’s six-week abortion ban on Friday, upholding a lower court ruling that’s kept the ban on hold for the past 14 months.

Ohio’s heartbeat law briefly went into effect following the overturning of Roe v. Wade but was quickly blocked by a county-level judge. That pause was challenged by Attorney General Dave Yoast, who appealed to the supreme court.

But, last week, the state’s high court dismissed the challenge citing ”a change in the law,” a reference to the vote to enshrine abortion rights into the state constitution back in November.
