Olympics Committee to media: Don’t call trans athletes ‘biological males’

by ian

The Olympic Committee is now telling media outlets not to refer to transgender athletes by their biological sex.

New guidelines say it’s “harmful” to refer to transgender athletes as biological males or females. The guidelines say this can be “dehumanizing and inaccurate” when used for a transgender person.

The blacklisted terms include: born male, born female, biologically male, and biologically female. The Olympics also provided other guidelines for female athletics, encouraging outlets not to compare female athletes to prominent males.

Instead, they ask outlets covering the Olympics to focus on discriminatory barriers to women and the so-called gender pay gap.
