The Agency for Palestinian Refugees, or UNRWA, says six of its staffers were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Wednesday.
The agency says the staff membersdied when Israel targeted a school facility in central Gaza where refugees were sheltering. Although Israel disputes the claim, the report has swiftly drawn backlash. On Wednesday, United Nations head Antonio Guterres called the strike unacceptable.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said yesterday that Israel must protect humanitarian zones while acknowledging that Hamas often uses these locations for their operations.
Israel has challenged UNWRA to prove its claim. A list released yesterday names nine terrorists killed in the strike, highlighting three of them as also being employed by UNRWA.
Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon reshared the list while saying the UN is ignoring the reality that Hamas terrorists have taken over the agency.
