Palestine is trying to assert dominance over Israel. The AP obtained a Palestinian UN proposal draft demanding that Israel give up its “unlawful presence” in Gaza and the West Bank within the next six months.
The General Assembly resolution stems from an International Court of Justice ruling in July that called Israel’s presence in Palestinian territory unlawful.
Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon denounced the resolution, saying it’s a “reward for terrorism” and called on the assembly to reject the proposal. He added, “Let it be clear: Nothing will stop Israel or deter it from its mission to bring home the hostages and eliminate Hamas.”
Should the resolution be adopted, it would not be legally binding. However, it would send a political message.
A council diplomat says the Palestinians are bringing the issue to the forefront before world leaders of the General Assembly start their annual meetings on Sept. 22.
