The Defense Department has growing concerns that Israeli tensions along the Lebanese border will soon explode into greater conflict.
Last week, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin urged his Israeli counterpart to “contain the conflict to Gaza and avoid regional escalation.” That’s the official statement, but Axios reports it was a very frank conversation about Israel’s military actions in Lebanon. There’s been an uptick in border skirmishes between Hezbollah and Israel since Oct. 7.
Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh confirmed concerns of a wider conflict yesterday.
According to the Axios report, the Israeli defense minister says he does not believe there will be a second front in the war.
