A recent poll released by Americans United for Life and YouGov found support for the claims of many sociologists who have deemed this generation to be the most pro-life generation in the 21st century.

The poll studied roughly 1,000 people in May of this year and found a general consensus of support for the unborn. In total, 89% of correspondents believe unborn children should be protected from “violence and assault.”

80% of those polled said they believe that unborn children have the right to be born. That number increases to 86% when the child reaches viability. Additionally, 55% of correspondents believe that a baby is a human either at the moment of conception or sometime within the first 12 weeks of a pregnancy.

52% believe the Supreme Court should recognize the legal rights of unborn children in the same way they would those outside the womb. Furthermore, 51% believe that abortion is truly killing a life, while only 14% believe that personhood begins at birth.

Catherine Glenn Foster, President & CEO of Americans United for Life, said in response to the findings, “We see powerfully through our latest AUL/YouGov national survey how intuitively supportive Americans are of the human right to life and legal rights for children prior to birth. We also see the tension between Americans’ convictions and the role of law in shaping culture. We must work together to give our beliefs a voice in the law, which exists to ensure justice and equal protection for all members of the human family.”

She further highlighted the need for pro-life politicians to speak out in defense of those who cannot.

“What we should take away from the results of this latest AUL/YouGov national survey is that in a post-Roe world, Americans will rely on our executive, judicial, and legislative leaders to clarify and uphold the human right to life in practice,” Foster stated. “As crucial as the encouragement of public opinion is for the human right to life, what will most be needed post-Roe are brave and courageous political leaders who are willing to act to restore the human right to life in its fullness and to protect it for all time to come.”
