The US announced recently that it will consider Kenya as a “major non-NATO ally” amid a growing Russian and Chinese presence in Africa. President Joe Biden met with Kenya’s President William Ruto yesterday to strengthen their relationship.

Ruto confirmed the friendship and affirmed Kenya’s commitment to democracy.

Their meeting came as Kenya is set to deploy 1,000 police officers to Haiti as part of a US-backed effort to stabilize the island. According to the Financial Times, the US has pledged $300 million to Kenya to back its security forces. The US views the African country as essential to maintaining global peace and security.
