On Capitol Hill voter-ID may be considered controversial, but according to a new Rasmussen poll an overwhelming portion of Americans support it – believing it’s necessary for secure elections.
According to the survey a shocking 90% of likely voters say that photo ID is important to ensure election integrity, with 79% saying it’s “Very Important.”
On Twitter Rasmussen broke down the results to the questions “How important is [ID] to prevent cheating in elections?”
Very % + Somewhat % = Total Important %
White: 81% + 9% = 90%
Black: 68% + 19% = 87%
Other Non-White: 79% + 10% = 89%
Dem: 69% + 17% = 86%
Unaffiliated: 81% + 7% = 88%
GOP: 88% + 6% = 94%
All Voters: 79% + 11% = 90%
Interestingly enough, though 90% say IDs are important to prevent cheating, only 74% say “requiring photo ID to vote is a reasonable measure to protect the integrity of elections.”
Perhaps to the surprise of Democratic lawmakers – more than half of Democrats, 61%, support voting IDs and even 54% of those who “strongly approve of Biden” support it as well. 50% of Democrats also agree with the statement “Opponents of requiring a photo ID to vote just want to make it easy to cheat in elections.”
