Remembering The U.S. Military Members Killed In The Kabul Attack

FISM News has followed the horrific Taliban takeover of Afghanistan and the subsequent terrorist attack on the Afghan airport in Kabul.  From the day of the attack on August 26, 2021, until sunset on August 30, flags across the nation flew at half-staff to honor the 13 United States military men and women who were killed in the attack in service of their country.  We join in honoring those brave men and women.

The 13 servicemen and women were made up mostly of U.S. Marines, and also included a member of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army.  The men and women who gave their lives are as follows:

  • 22 year-old Corpsman Max W. Soviak of Ohio. United States Navy.
  • 23 year-old Staff Sergeant Ryan C. Knauss of Tennessee. United States Army.
  • 31 year-old Staff Sergeant Darin T. Hoover Jr. of Utah. United States Marine Corps.
  • 25 year-old Sergeant Johanny Rosario Pichardo of Michigan. United States Marine Corps.
  • 23 year-old Sergeant Nicole L. Gee, of California. United States Marine Corps.
  • 23 year-old Corporal Deagan W. Page of Nebraska. United States Marine Corps.
  • 22 year-old Corporal Hunter Lopez of California. United States Marine Corps.
  • 22 year-old Corporal Humberto A. Sanchez of Indiana. United States Marine Corps.
  • 20 year-old Lance Corporal David L. Espinoza of Texas. United States Marine Corps.
  • 20 year-old Lance Corporal Jared M. Schmitz of Missouri. United States Marine Corps.
  • 20 year-old Lance Corporal Rylee J. McCollum of Wyoming. United States Marine Corps.
  • 20 year-old Lance Corporal Dylan R. Merola of California. United States Marine Corps.
  • 20 year-old Lance Corporal Kareem M. Nikoui of California.  United States Marine Corps.

 

In addition to these men and women, 95 Afghan citizens were killed in the attack.
