Twenty-three American citizens have safely fled Haiti thanks to Rep. Cory Mills.

The Florida Republican has conducted two rescue missions so far, saying many Americans have been abandoned by the federal government. His rescue operation comes as the government helped over 30 Americans escape earlier in the week.

The State Department says nearly 1,000 Americans are asking for help in what the U.S. is calling “one of the most dire humanitarian situations in the world.”
