Report on Iranian president’s death shows ‘technical failure’

Iran is now officially confirming the death of President Ebrahim Raisi, as was first reported yesterday.

He and several others died in a helicopter crash on Sunday. Iranian state media blamed an unspecified “technical failure” for causing the crash.

In addition, the White House sparked criticism for offering condolences to Iran over Raisi’s death – a man known as the “butcher of Tehran.”

The US also participated in a moment of silence at the UN Security Council at the prompting of Russia and China. The State Department said while Raisi was responsible for human rights abuses, the US still mourns the loss of life.
