Republican resignations from Congress spark heated debate

Republicans in Congress are blaming each other for their party’s ever-shrinking majority. Specifically, the party is taking issue with the number of resignations from this Congress.

Representatives Ken Buck (Col.) and Mike Gallagher (Wis.) have been the most recent members to step back. This drew condemnation from fellow House member Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.), who threw much of the blame on Speaker Mike Johnson (La.).

Some of the less hardline conservative Republicans have come to Speaker Johnson’s aid, saying it is members like Greene who are causing such disarray in the House. Greene also threatened to oust Johnson from his role as speaker, which some believe would effectively hand the Democrats power of the chamber again.
