Republicans win big in Louisiana runoff elections

Republicans gained significant ground in Louisiana’s runoff elections on Saturday.

Saturday’s elections saw Republican candidates Liz Murrill, Nancy Landry, and John Fleming elected as attorney general, secretary of state, and state treasurer, respectively. Aside from a sweeping Republican win, this also proves to be a historic moment for Louisiana since the state will now have its first female attorney general and secretary of state.

The victory is seen as a big win for Louisiana Republicans. For the first time since 2015, the GOP has secured all of Louisiana’s statewide offices. Republicans in the state also hold a two-thirds supermajority in the legislature. Former President Trump was pleased to see the results since he endorsed all three Republican candidates.

On a broader note, this is an encouragement to Republicans who have now seen two straight years of substantial election losses on a nationwide scale.
