Russia bombards Kyiv hours after US official departs

Russia launched its largest missile attack on Kyiv in weeks just hours after a US official left the city.

More than 25,000 people took shelter in the city’s metro stations while the attack was ongoing. Ukrainian officials said Russia launched two ballistic missiles and 29 cruise missiles at Kyiv. They claim all were shot down, but about a dozen people were injured from falling debris.

In his nightly address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed the need for increased air defense from their allies.

The attack came just hours after US National Defense Advisor Jake Sullivan ended his trip to Kyiv, where he reaffirmed US support for Ukraine.
