Russia concedes dangers of reopening Zaporizhzhia power plant

Russia concedes that it’s too dangerous to restart operations at the seized Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southeastern Ukraine.

The UN’s nuclear watchdog said yesterday that Russia will not crank up production at this time. The agency says Moscow wants to generate power in the future, but they understand the danger of using it in an active combat zone.

Last week’s meeting with Russian officials came days after the power plant lost its lone off-site power line. The plant relied on a backup energy source for over three hours before the connection was restored.
