The ethics wing of the Southern Baptist Convention strongly objects to proposed government rules for unaccompanied minors.
The US. Office of Refugee Resettlement is considering changes to existing rules for unaccompanied children referred by its office. But the SBC ethics commission says the proposal will expand required services to include abortions and gender transitions.
They say it violates religious liberty and will “ultimately hurt the minors who have already experienced deep trauma.” They argue that faith-based foster providers and parents will be made to choose between their convictions and caring for vulnerable children.
The federal government closed public comments on the rule proposal Monday.
