SC bans transgender treatments and procedures for minor patients

South Carolina is banning trans treatments for children.

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster (R) signed the law this week, making the state the 25th to ban these procedures for individuals under 18. The governor posted on X, “I signed the Help Not Harm bill into law, which protects our state’s children from irreversible gender transition procedures and bans public funds from being used for them.”

The AP reports that the law will ban “performing gender-transition surgeries, prescribing puberty blockers and overseeing hormone treatments for patients under 18.” The law excludes certain medical conditions that do require the use of puberty blockers.

However, the law also requires schools to notify parents if their kids want to use different pronouns.
