SCOTUS appears skeptical of DOJ in J6 arguments

by Renata

Supreme Court justices grilled the DOJ’s lawyer during oral arguments yesterday. The DOJ has charged hundreds of January 6 protesters and rioters with obstructing an official proceeding of Congress – a charge that’s also being applied to Donald Trump by Special Council Jack Smith.

But Conservative Justice Neil Gorsuch seems to believe that charge is overly broad.

Gorsuch referenced Democratic Rep. Jamaal Bowman (N.Y.), who was charged last fall with setting off a fire alarm at the Capitol ahead of a vote. All six conservatives on the court seemed critical of the DOJ’s application of the law.
