Last month, a statue was unveiled outside the United Nations building in New York City, in a development that is making Christians take a second look. The statue looks eerily similar to the “beast” described by the Apostle John in the book of Revelation, and paralleled with a similar beast described by the prophet Daniel in Old Testament.
According to the UN, the statue is “a guardian for international peace and security [that] sits on the Visitor’s Plaza outside #UN Headquarters. The guardian is a fusion of jaguar and eagle and donated by the Government of Oaxaca, Mexico.” The statue appears to have the body of a jaguar, the wings of an eagle, the paws of a bear, and what seems to be the scales of a dragon.

Revelation 13:2 describes a similar beast which will appear in the Last Days. The Apostle John writes:
The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion. The dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority.
Similarly, Daniel 7 speaks of a similar beast, which many biblical scholars believe is the same one which John would predict hundreds of years later. Daniel 7:3-4 says,
Four great beasts, each different from the others, came up out of the sea. The first was like a lion, and it had the wings of an eagle. I watched until its wings were torn off and it was lifted from the ground so that it stood on two feet like a human being, and the mind of a human was given to it.
Regardless of one’s stance on eschatology, this statue’s makeup and placement at the headquarters of one of the powerful institutions in the world could definitely be a sign of the times. Christians are indeed living in the last days, and now is the time for bold evangelism and steadfast courage in a world that is becoming more violently opposed to the truth of the Bible.
