Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas squeezed in a visit to the southern border earlier today.
His brief visit to the Del Rio sector included a private meeting with local officials and border protection agents. The visit comes only two days before Mayorkas is due before the House Committee on Homeland Security for formal impeachment proceedings over the border crisis.
More than 300,000 illegal immigrants were encountered at the border just last month. The secretary told Fox News on Thursday that he wouldn’t be surprised if more than 70% of those illegal immigrants have already been released into the U.S.
Now, House Republicans are taking heat for proceeding with the impeachment rather than negotiating new border policies. But Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said yesterday that Mayorkas is not a “good faith negotiating partner.”
