Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog earlier today in talks primarily focused on a hostage release proposal. Hamas responded yesterday, but Blinken says there’s “a lot of work” still to be done.
Hamas is asking for a four-and-a-half-month ceasefire and said they will release all remaining Israeli prisoners in exchange for the end of the war as well as the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, some of whom are senior officers in Hamas. President Joe Biden said yesterday the demands are a “little over the top.”
But the Qatari prime minister is optimistic that a deal will be reached soon.
