Sen. Graham demands answers about attempted Marine base breach

Republicans are demanding answers from Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas about a possible national security threat involving two Jordanian nationals.

The men were caught earlier this month trying to break into a Virginia military base by posing as delivery drivers. They were later detained by ICE. Reports suggest at least one of them is on the terror watch list.

Now, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) wants to know if that’s true. He sent a letter to Mayorkas saying: “Please explain how they came to the United States. Were they here illegally? Are either of them on any terrorist watchlist?”

Graham says this information will help Congress determine how to stop similar threats in the future. Graham has long been concerned about the national security threat posed by illegal immigration.

FBI director Chris Wray told lawmakers in March that the agency is concerned about terrorists exploiting the situation at the southern border. Wray said the FBI is aware of at least one smuggling operation with direct ties to ISIS.
