Senate approves bill to rollback gas furnace rules

by ian

The Senate approved a resolution yesterday, rolling back the Biden administration’s strict rules targeting gas furnaces.

To recap, the Department of Energy targeted furnaces with new energy emission standards. Proponents claim it will slash utility bills and carbon emissions. But critics, like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), say the rule removes up to 60% of current models and forces Americans to invest in remodels they can’t afford.

The bill passed 50 to 45 with the help of centrist Democrats like Senators Joe Manchin (W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (Ariz.). President Joe Biden threatened to veto the bill ahead of the vote. A companion bill is already in the House.
