The Senate confirmed 425 military nominees yesterday after Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) lifted his blockade on most military promotions, a move celebrated by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.).
Tuberville has been blocking mass promotions since February forcing the Senate to vote on individual nominees in a time-consuming process. He’s protesting the Pentagon’s use of taxpayer money to fund abortion travel for service members, which he says is illegal. The senator has maintained his protest on high-level nominees.
Pressure from both parties has been mounting to end the blockade in recent weeks. Tuberville’s now considering bringing a lawsuit to end the Pentagon’s abortion policy.
