Senate dismisses impeachment articles against Mayorkas

Republican hopes were dashed yesterday when the Senate dismissed impeachment articles against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Moyaorkas.

Senators voted along party lines, with Alaska Republican Lisa Murkowski voting “present” for one of the articles. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said going forward with a trial would have set a dangerous precedent.

Republican leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) warned the Senate has now opened the door to ignoring future impeachments from the House.

Likewise, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said the Senate’s actions were shameful.
