Senate fails to pass border legislation

The Senate failed to pass the border bill yesterday, after a vote of 49-50 shot down the bipartisan effort.

The bill took heat from many Republicans in both chambers of Congress after it was released on Sunday, including Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who said the bill “codified Joe Biden’s open borders.”

Despite the vocal opposition from prominent Republicans in both chambers, President Joe Biden blamed the bill’s failure on former President Donald Trump. And now it seems Biden is not the only one as House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (R-N.Y.) joined in on the blame game.

But it looks like lawmakers agreed on some aspects of the bill. This afternoon the Senate moved forward with parts of the measure that provide aid to Ukraine, Israel, and the Indo-Pacific.
