A scathing new Senate report says the Secret Service had ample opportunity to prevent the July shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania, that wounded former President Donald Trump and resulted in the death of a rallygoer.
The bipartisan report calls the shooting entirely “foreseeable” and “preventable” – even revealing that the Secret Service was warned of a “credible” threat just days before.
The report also details how agents failed to secure the roof from which the shooter fired at Trump – despite warnings from local law enforcement of it being a potential security risk.
The report comes the same day that Congress approved new security funding for presidential candidates in light of the increased threat level against Trump.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) says the funding will be conditional on continued cooperation from the Secret Service with Congressional oversight investigations.
